LAKE GARDA
Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake, with a surface area of approximately 370 square kilometers. Bordering three regions: Lombardy (province of Brescia), Veneto (province of Verona), and Trentino-Alto Adige (province of Trento), it runs parallel to the Adige River, separated from it by the Monte Baldo massif. To the north, it is narrow and funnel-shaped, while to the south it widens and extends, surrounded by hills that soften the landscape. The lake is a major tourist destination, visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Etruscan or Roman, Byzantine or Lombard, Venetian or, finally, Italian, Sirmione has always been, above all, itself: the Pearl of Garda, Catullus's "Venusta Sirmio," Carducci's "Flower of the Peninsulas." Famous since ancient times for its generous thermal waters, Sirmione is located on the southern shore of Lake Garda, on a long, thin peninsula jutting out into the lake for about 4 km. It enjoys widespread fame thanks to writers such as Catullus, Stendhal, Lawrence, and Goethe, who celebrated its artistic and natural beauty in their writings. It is one of the most enchanting places on the lake, offering a splendid panorama of both shores: villas already stood here in Roman times, including that of the poet Catullus, who sang of the beauty of these places in his verses. Today, Sirmione is one of Lake Garda's most important tourist destinations. Its historic center is characterized by narrow stone-walled streets, offering visitors romantic and evocative views. Nature and history: from the Scaligero Castle to the archaeological site located at the tip of the peninsula, Sirmione holds incomparable treasures of art and history.

Lake Garda is the biggest lake in Italy and it covers an area of 370 skm. The Lake is made up of three regions: Lombardia, Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige. The imposing Mont Baldo is between the lake and the Adige river on the east side. The north part is narrow and overlooked by mountains while the south part is much wider and surrounded by hills giving a softer landscape. The lake is a popular tourist resort and is visited by numerous people all year round

The peninsula on which it stands sticks out into the water about 4 Km and is one of the most enchanting places on the lake. In Roman times villas were built there including that of the poet Catullus who wrote of the beauty of the lake in his verses.
Nature and history: Sirmione is full of art treasures and history starting with the Castle through which one must pass to reach the town center.

Sirmione è un luogo in cui sicuramente non ci si annoia. I turisti durante il giorno possono dedicarsi alla tintarella in una delle tante splendide spiagge. Il massimo del relax è assicurato anche dalle terme. Sirmione è infatti famosa per essere uno dei più apprezzati e frequentati centri termali d’Italia. Dunque grazie alle sue SPA Sirmione è un posto unico per una vacanza rilassante e rigenerante. Ci si può poi dedicare allo shopping, e grazie ai ristoranti e le pizzerie si possono scoprire i piatti tipici della cucina locale.
Una cosa è certa: i turisti che scelgono Sirmione per le proprie vacanze avranno un’infinità di luoghi meravigliosi da visitare. Sulla punta della penisola di Sirmione, all’interno di una suggestiva posizione panoramica, si trovano i resti di una grandissima villa romana. Si tratta delle cosiddette Grotte di Catullo, una costruzione che si pensa appartenesse al poeta latino Catullo e che conserva affreschi risalenti al I e II secolo a.C.
Da non perdere anche il Castello Scaligero. Situato su una rocca, è completamente circondato dal lago di Garda. La sua struttura è tipicamente medievale, con una facciata imponente caratterizzata da tre alte torri decorate con merlature. Impossibile non ammirare la Rocca di Sirmione, esempio importante di fortificazione darsena, la quale originariamente aveva lo scopo di difendere il territorio di confine tra i possedimenti scaligeri e la Repubblica di Venezia. Una visita vi frutterà anche una splendida visita sul lago. Interessante da vedere è anche il Palazzo Maria Callas. Esso si trova al centro del paese, in piazza Carducci. Datato alla fine del XVIII secolo, è attualmente una importante sede espositiva. Sempre nel centro storico sono da vedere la chiesa di
S. Maria, con il chiostro, la chiesa di San Pietro in perfetto stile romanico e la Chiesetta di Sant' Anna.
